In a competitive category, a clog needs a feature that customers can remember. When styles and prices are similar, a distinctive pattern or color combination can give shoppers another reason to choose a product.

Sun-activated color is the defining feature
The effect uses photochromic materials, which change color in response to ultraviolet light. The UV in sunlight activates this response.
In the video below, the light-blue EVA clog develops a vivid pink pattern on the upper in sunlight. The pink lines contrast with the blue shoe, giving the same clog a different appearance as the light changes.
Conventional printing expresses a design through color and artwork. UV color-changing effects add a visible transition to that design. This can become a feature of a summer casual collection, work with playful graphics for a children’s range, or be developed around a brand’s own theme and colors.
The feature also gives brands practical ways to present the product. A product page can show the appearance before and after UV exposure. A short video can capture the change in sunlight. An in-store sample demonstration can let shoppers see the effect for themselves. Alongside a photograph of the shoe, the brand has a selling point it can explain and demonstrate.
Custom printed patterns and color-changing colors
The blue-and-pink combination in the video is one design option. Customers can specify their own upper artwork and the color they would like it to display under UV exposure.
The shoe’s base color, printed pattern and color-changing palette can be developed together. For example, a children’s collection could use animal or floral graphics, while a summer holiday range could explore waves, botanical artwork or geometric lines. Brands can also use their own original artwork to make the effect part of a coordinated collection.
We can customize the printed pattern from a customer’s artwork and develop the UV-activated color to their requirements. The size, placement and color combination of the pattern can also be arranged to suit the clog style.
Different combinations of artwork and color-changing colors allow one clog style to take several design directions. Customers can build a collection around a consistent theme or develop different versions for different sales channels.

Customers with a new design, or those looking for a different silhouette, upper shape or construction details, can work with us on development. The UV-reactive artwork can be planned alongside the shoe itself, bringing the shape, pattern and color change together as one design.
These routes serve different product plans: extending a collection with an existing shoe shape, or starting with a new style that more closely reflects the brand’s identity.
